Physical difficulties
Many physical and psychological difficulties and needs are common to patients with varying diseases. It may be useful to understand not only your sickness, but also the management of these partial problems. To cope with them it is possible to use other services apart from the classical medical practices or hospital beds. These services include for instance a department for pain treatment of a specialized institution where palliative care is provided. They are called hospices. Hospice services can be provided in bed-care institutions (hospices, possibly departments for palliative medicine), and for a temporary period (when the patient’s state worsens), for a longer term, or possibly on an outpatient basis in social welfare institutions. They can be also provided at home as part of home hospice care.
Compared to hospitals, hospices offer a more civil environment and accommodation generally takes the form of one-bed rooms where the patient’s partner or other close cperson can stay also, greater patient comfort, an accent on a lively program, and specialized therapeutic procedures including pain treatment. Hospices provide adequate attention to the individual wishes of the patients and to the connection of the therapeutic, psychological, social and spiritual needs of the sick and their relatives. The list of hospices (and contacts) in the Czech Republic can be found in the address book.
